Piano

The piano was invented in the early 18th century by Bartolomeo Cristofori, offering musicians a new ability to control both volume and expression through touch. Unlike earlier keyboard instruments such as the harpsichord, the piano allowed players to produce soft and loud sounds simply by varying the pressure of their fingers—an innovation that transformed musical performance.

Over time, the instrument evolved in design, size, and sound. The addition of pedals, stronger frames, and expanded keyboards gave composers greater creative possibilities, helping the piano become central to Western classical music as well as romantic, jazz, film, and contemporary styles.

Today, the piano remains one of the most versatile and widely studied instruments in the world. It is often considered the ideal foundation for musical education because it develops rhythm, coordination, music reading, and overall musicianship while allowing students to explore a wide range of musical genres.
